David Chipperfield is on a shortlist of four for the prestigious design competition

David Chipperfield Architects has made the shortlist of a prestigious design competition to masterplan the New Holland Island cultural district of St Petersburg.

The 100,000m2 redevelopment on the site of a former army barracks will feature a mixture of cultural space, flats and offices, as well as the restoration of some existing buildings.

The other three shortlisted practices are Dutch practice MVRDV, Russian firm Studio 44 and WORKac from the United States.

A winner will be announced after a public exhibition in the summer.
