Fontwell Park grandstand scheme to restart at a reduced cost after stalling late last year

Contractor Buckingham group has been appointed to build a racecourse facility in Sussex, a project that is re-starting after stalling late last year.

Northern Racing Group said it would now press ahead with the AFL Architects-designed grandstand at Fontwell Park after “significantly” reducing the construction costs.

Consultant Arcadis is project and cost manager on the development, which includes a concourse, restaurant, two 40-person boxes and 14 12-person boxes.

Arcadis executive director Paul Mitchell said: “Originally the project was due to be tendered in autumn last year, Northern Racing and Arcadis in partnership decided to delay the procurement until spring this year.

“There is no doubt the viability of the project has benefited from the reduction in construction costs, some elements being significantly lower than the budget set 18 months ago.”
