Mulalley & Hackney Homes beat Canary Wharf Contractors by just half a second to clinch the London Construction Industry Dragon Boat Challenge yesterday in North London.

The two crews were quickest in the heats and were destined to meet in the final, despite Team Wharf surviving a three-boat smash in an earlier round.

No-one was hurt in the race incident but the wooden head of a dragon was severed in the impact.

The 39 competing rose at least £12,000 for charity which included £2,000 from Sto which had the distinction of raising the most for homeless construction charity Crash.
