Firm health and safety consultant on two events held at Ras Laffan near Doha

Capita Symonds has provided event health and safety consultancy services to WRG Qatar LLC on one of the Qatari oil and gas industry’s largest events.

The 77 MTA (millions of tonnes per annum) event, held at Ras Laffan Industrial City, was organised by Qatar Petroleum, Qatargas and RasGas in honour of the three companies’ collaboration which saw them break Middle East records by producing 77 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas in a single year.

An hour from the capital city Doha, Ras Laffan is one of the largest oil and gas plants in the world.

A Capita team led by Mike Williams worked on the event which featured a bespoke temporary venue structure measuring 57m wide and 20m high, supporting 35 tonnes of rigging, including a 1200 seat auditorium, deep water stage with a 5m diameter central stage lift. Also within the structure was a 360 degree screen measuring 180m by 9m and rigging for 27 aerial performers.

This project included overseeing the safety of 29 contractors and suppliers and adhering to the strict safety procedures and policies at Ras Laffan.

Over 1200 invited guests attended the event including H.H. The Emir of Qatar as well as a variety of other international royal dignitaries.

Capita has also acted as health and safety consultant on the recent inauguration of the new Nakilat Ship Repair Yard at the Ras Laffan port. The 43-hectare ship yard is set to put Qatar on the map as a world leader in ship maintenance and repair.

The opening ceremony combined state-of-the-art technology and acrobatic performances to showcase the synergy between the three companies and countries behind the construction and completion of the shipyard - Nakilat (Qatar) Damen Shipyards Group (Netherlands); Keppel Marine (Singapore).
