Carillion’s joint venture firm Patient Choice Partners wins preferred bidder status for £50m treatment centre in Essex

Carillion has won preferred bidder status for a £50m joint venture, which will result in it building its first treatment centre.

The Carillion-led joint venture Patient Choice Partners has been appointed preferred bidder for the design, build and operation of the Independent Sector Treatment Centre (ISTC) at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital in Essex.

PCP will provide treatment centre and deliver three services: endoscopy, chemotherapy and a medical day case service that will provide additional capacity for Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital NHS Trust. The unit will employ around 650 full-time clinicians and support staff.

Chief executive John McDonough said: “We are delighted to have been selected as the preferred bidder for our first ISTC and look forward to working alongside Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital NHS Trust to provide quicker access to high quality services for patients and Local Primary Care Trusts.”

PCP is a 50:50 joint venture between Carillion and Nestor Healthcare Group, while PCP’s clinical partner is Medi-Clinic, a South African private hospital group.
