TWD, Carillion Canada's road maintenance joint venture, named preferred bidder for Ontario contract.

A joint venture led by contractor Carillion has won a £38m road maintenance contract in Canada.

Carillion Canada’s road maintenance joint venture, TWD, has been named preferred bidder on the Halton Peel Area Maintenance Contract by the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario.

The nine-year contract, which starts in July 2005, includes summer and winter road patrolling, wayside rest area maintenance, vegetation management, electrical maintenance emergency traffic control and winter maintenance.

The contract covers over 700 km of highway in and around the communities of Toronto, Milton, Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon and Orangeville.

Carillion’s chief executive John McDonough said: “We are delighted to have been appointed as the preferred bidder for another highways maintenance contract in Ontario, which is in line with Carillion’s strategy to grow our support services activities in our international regional businesses.”
