Liverpool Waters will take 30 years to complete

Architect Chapman Taylor has been revealed as the masterplanner behind a new £5.5bn development on Liverpool’s waterfront.

Developer Peel Holdings scheme, called Liverpool Waters, will stretch over a 150-acre site and is being touted as one of the largest regeneration schemes in the country.

Peel announced today that the 21m sq ft mixed-use project will include over 50 buildings, many over 50 storeys high.

Other elements of the scheme include:

- A monorail for the city, with the potential to connect to John Lennon Airport

- 23,000 new homes and four hotels

- The creation of a new marina and an additional cruise liner

- A new promenade and bridges across the water

- The Jesse Hartley historic clock tower at Salisbury Dock will be restored and framed by two skyscrapers

An outline planning application will be submitted in the next 12 months. Peel said it expected the development to take 30 years to completion.

Peel Holdings is also behind the £4.5bn Wirral Waterfront development, which is being masterplanned by architect Broadway Malyan.
