His appointment follows the promotion of current head, Paul Chilton to managing partner effective 1 October 2008.

Chilton said: “James brings with him the benefit of a deep technical and soft skills set to continue the growth and development of a very successful group.

“Despite the current economic turbulence, the importance of maintaining and enhancing property assets is widely recognised; lease cycles continue to foreshorten, and the steady flow of enacted legislation all mean that there is strong demand for building consultancy services.”

Alan Bertram has also joined the firm as partner within the project and building consultancy division.

Previously an associate director at Northcroft Construction Consultants, he has been appointed to head up the new cost and management consultancy group with responsibility for feasibility studies, budget estimating, value management, bills of quantities and tender production, cash flow forecasting, pre and post-contract cost planning and controlling, framework agreements, project monitoring and life cycle costing.

The Project and building consultancy division now provides advice across a wide range of building consultancy, architectural and cost consultancy disciplines, to the commercial, residential, industrial, utilities, pharmaceutical, voluntary, educational and healthcare sectors, from offices in Brighton, Oxford, Maidstone, Reading and London.
