Major Isle of Wight highways maintenance contract attracts only three bidders

Just three firms have submitted pre-qualification documents for a PFI highways maintenance contract on the Isle of Wight worth up to £1.2bn.

Colas, Amey and Vinci were the only contractors to put themselves forward, despite expectations that competition would be intense.

An open day was recently held for those interested in bidding, after which firms were requested to submit pre-qualification questionnaires.

The contract, which will be worth up to £1.2bn, is for work due to start in 2012. It will involve the management, maintenance and refurbishment of all publicly maintained urban and rural roads on the Isle of Wight.
