Rail contractor's £20m of new contracts balance out falling freight volumes

Profit at rail contractor Jarvis is on track, thanks to new contract wins over the summer.

Despite reporting a fall in freight container volume due to lower imports, Jarvis said that interim profit will still be in line with expectations because of increased turnover in its rail business.

The UK-based group said that it had won new contracts with Network Rail since 31 July, including signalling works at Hunterston and Newton-on-Ayr and the Lugton Loop renewal in Scotland, worth £20m in total.

Jarvis has also invested in more locomotives and coal wagons for its coal haulage contract with E.ON.

Interim results will be announced on 27 November 2008.
