McAlpine wins PFI projects
Contractor Alfred McAlpine has been chosen as preferred bidder for a PFI project to build two schools and leisure facilities in Nottinghamshire. The project is a 25-year contract with a capital value of £17m.

Benson awarded £5.5m work
Contractor Benson has won work to build and refit eight educational establishments. The contracts, worth £5.5m, include the £1.46m redevelopment of Glenthorpe High School in Sutton, south London.

Good move for Fitzpatrick
Fitzpatrick has been chosen for an urban regeneration and highway works contract on Trafalgar Square by Transport for London. The contractor has also landed the £21m deal to design and rebuild a traincare facility, with offices and workshop, in Southampton.

Wakemans chosen for motels
Construction consultant Wakemans has won contracts with Compass Group UK to build three Travelodge motels in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, Durham and Cirencester, Gloucestershire. The three sites, totalling nearly £6m, are to be completed in February.

UK's first leisure PFI awarded
Parkwood Holdings and G&J Seddon Contractors have signed the UK's first leisure PFI to build a swimming pool and leisure complex in Crosby, Merseyside. Designed by JLA Chartered Architects and Interior Designers, the total capital requirement is about £8m.

McLean gets a new job
Contractor David McLean has won a £3m contract to refurbish eight job centres for the Employment Service and Benefits Agency.

Ibex to fit out Archway Tower
Ibex Interiors has been awarded a £2m government contract to fit out the empty Archway Tower in north London. The contract, to refurbish all 16 floors (over 78,000 ft2), starts in November.

HBG lands Elstree contract
Contractor HBG Construction has been awarded a £1.7m design-and-build contract by Slough Estates for an office building at the Centennial Park development in Elstree, Hertfordshire. The contract represents the fourth phase of HBG's involvement in the project, bringing the value of its work at Elstree to more than £18.5m.
