Contractor reveals 'high' tendering activity and predicts results will be in line with expectations

Costain has amassed a record £2.4bn in forward orders, with £900m work secured for 2009.

The contractor has released a trading update detailing a number of new contracts signed in the past few months, and says the current level of tendering activity remains “high”.

The new contracts include a £397m deal with Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority, a £400m agreement with Severn Trent and a £200m maintenance contract with the Highways Agency.

In total, Costain can boast a forward order book worth £2.4bn, a 20% increase on this time last year. As a result, the firm expects to perform in line with the board's expectations. It will report its interim results on 26 August.
