Contractor will extensively refurbish St Martin-in-the-fields and upgrade the famous Cafe in the Crypt restaurant.

Costain has won the £22.5m contract to restore and redevelop St Martin-in-the-Fields in Trafalgar Square.

The contract with St Martin-in-the-Fields Building Renewal Project involves the renovation of the interior and exterior of the church and the upgrading of the commercial and retail facilities in the crypt.

Costain will also demolish existing below-ground burial vaults and create new underground spaces for the congregation and for mechanical and electrical plant. Other works will include the refurbishment of the Nash-designed North Range terrace adjacent to the church. The project is due to be completed in July 2007.

Costain also announced further contract wins in Enfield, North London and Rothley Lodge in Leicestershire.

At the PalaceXchange development in Enfield the contractor will provide 23 shop units and up to 6.038m2 of leisure and cultural venues. The scheme is due for completion in 2006.

At Rothley Lodge Costain will design and build a single storey warehouse/production unit with two-storey office accommodation attached. The £17m contract is due for completion in September 2005.
