Consolidations and logistics facilities will be set up for deliveries on rail scheme

Excavations from Crossrail will give rise to 600 truck-loads of spoil a day, according to the company’s construction logistics manager, Simon Phillips.

He said new consolidations and logistics facilities would be set up for deliveries adding that 47% of journeys would be by road, 39% by barge and the remaining 14% by rail.

In January, logistics specialist, DHL Exel Supply chain, which is charged with logistical work on the Olympic site, began working on a study to minimise the impact of construction on central London.

Some of the earth from the scheme will be used to create a marshland habitat for birds in Wallasea Island in Essex.
