Construction began this week on the €117.6m (£106m) Linz Neues Musiktheatre in Linz, the European Capital of Culture 2009

Terry Pawson Architects designed the 45,000m2 building. The venue, which is due to open in 2012, is wrapped in a uniform facade of white cast stone and elements refer to traditional Viennese theatres. It will include a 990-seat auditorium, 200-seat public rehearsal room and underground parking.
