Capital projects director Andrew Wolstenholme to head Balfour Beatty's professional and technical services division

BAA capital projects director Andrew Wolstenholme is to join Balfour Beatty to head its professional and technical services division.

Wolstenholme, one of the driving forces behind the construction of Heathrow Terminal 5, will join Balfour Beatty Management in February.

He will initially work alongside present managing director David James and take over the day-to-day running of the business after a short transition period. Balfour Beatty said that James will remain with the business.

A former army officer, Wolstenholme worked at BAA for more than 10 years and is known in the industry for acting as project director for the £4.3bn Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport.

Alongside former Heathrow chief executive Tony Douglas, he was instrumental in pushing forward the “T5 Agreement” with the project's contractors, allowing it to be built on time and on budget.

Ian Tyler, chief executive of Balfour Beatty, said: “I am delighted that Andrew is joining us, as we continue to develop our major projects capability and upstream professional services across the group.”
