The London Borough of Newham approves Fraser Brown MacKenna's designs for £33m University of East London student complex.

Planners have approved £33m student accommodation for the University of East London by Fraser Brown MacKenna Architects.

The designs for the complex on the Royal Albert Dock echo the drum buildings designed for the UEL by Cullinan and were approved by the London Borough of Newham.

The scheme opposite London City Airport comprises 132 flats and 139 studios within five seven storey blocks. A café, shop and courtyard gardens complete the development which is part of a £110m campus extension programme at the UEL.

Other members of the project team include Gardiner and Teobald, Gleeds, Waterman Partnership and DCL Consulting.
