Inaugural ceremony champions industry's most progressive companies.

David Blunkett’s resignation as Work and Pensions secretary was temporarily forgotten yesterday as the DWP won two prizes at Building’s inaugural Sustainability Awards. In some respects at least, the government department has led by example, and was named sustainable client of the year at the Hilton hotel in London last night. Judges said that the DWP was “a glowing example to other government departments.”

Amongst the other winners were Countryside Properties (sustainable housebuilder of the year); Carillion Building (sustainable contractor of the year) and bptw, named the responsible employer of the year.
