Consultant EC Harris has been appointed on a five-year deal to provide construction services to the Royal Courts of Justice, the UK's main civil court.

The firm will provide building surveying, engineering, quantity surveying and project management services to the courts' central London estate, which includes about 100,000 m2 of property.

An EC Harris team will be permanently based at the Royal Courts of Justice premises, which include the courts and accommodation for judges.

The Royal Courts of Justice contract, which is worth about £500,000, comes on top of similar EC Harris commissions for courts in the Midlands, London and the South-east over the past two years.

It also follows partner Graham Matthews' appointment at the end of last year as an independent construction expert on the £30m UK Supreme Court at Middlesex Guildhall in central London.

Architect Walters and Cohen has been appointed to design the UK's largest ever primary school, in Wembley Manor, north-west London, with EC Harris as cost consultant. Walters and Cohen will design the scheme, which will accommodate 900 pupils, under the government's £150m Building Schools for the Future programme.

The practice beat competition from Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, Shepheard Epstein Hunter, Cottrell & Vermeulen and Curl La Tourelle.
