Acquisition cost Amec £170m

Engineer Amec has acquired US engineering and environmental services company, Mactec.

LSE-listed Amec, which has a turnover of almost £3bn, bought US$411m (£250m) turnover Mactec for US$280m (£170m).

Mactec is based in Georgia and focuses on engineering, design, environmental and construction work, and works across the industrial, commercial, transport and energy sectors. It has 2,600 employees operating from 70 offices across the US.

Mactec is currently owned by a private equity firm and leveraged buy-out specialist Nautic Partners.

In November 2010, Amec revealed that it had increased its workforce by 900 to 22,200 employees in the last year. It now has 25,000 employees.
