Mott MacDonald, Jacobs + Babcock and URS on design framework for Sellafield decommissioning

Engineers Mott MacDonald, Jacobs and Babcock and consultant URS are among the firms which have won a place on a new design framework for Sellafield worth £1.5bn.

The consortiums will be asked to develop design and safety assessments, deliver refurbishment and upgrades to the site as well as delivering clean-up and decommissioning support to the nuclear power plant’s owners.

The framework consists of two consortiums the Progressive Alliance and AXIOM. Progressive Alliance is made up of Babcock and URS, while AXIOM contains Mott MacDonald, Jacobs, engineer AMEC and designer Assystem.

The contracts under the framework are the first of £9bn of contracts which will be let by Sellafield over the next two years to clean up at the site.

John Parr, project director at Progressive Alliance, said: “Sellafield can rely on the combined experience and expertise of the partners, who are able to offer the people, partnering and performance to ensure successful delivery, and who are committed to continually improving delivery over the long-term duration of the programme.”
