Fire broke out at this Greenacre Homes timber frame site in Camberwell, south London, at 2am on Wednesday morning

This was the second blaze in the area. In November, another Greenacre site burned down a mile away in Peckham. James Glocking, technical director of the Fire Protection Association, said: “The timber frame industry is becoming tarred and needs to act urgently."

Wintry conditions wrought havoc on construction sites across the UK this week as snow blanketed numerous projects. Workers were sent home on several major sites amid fears over safety, including the Olympic park (pictured) and MediaCity in Salford. Construction commentator Brian Green estimated the conditions could cost the industry £400-900m.
