Locals described the scene as a "war zone"

Some locals described it as a “war zone” while others initially thought it was snowing before realising the “snow” was actually white ash. Firefighters took 45 minutes to bring the fire under control and surrounding streets were closed for several hours to enable the remaining hotspots to be damped down.

Firefighters said it was surprising that nobody was injured because the fire was so ferocious. Police are treating the incident as suspicious.
