WSP and a joint venture between Arup and Atkins are among the firms bidding to design the Tottenham Court Road and Farringdon Crossrail stations, bids for which were in this week

Other engineers are also expected to bid for the projects, which cost consultants have valued at £600-800m.

Arup and Atkins issued a joint statement saying that they would continue to work together in bidding for “most of the tunnelling and station design work”.

Other firms on the station design framework that could bid are Capita Symonds, Hyder, Jacobs, Mott MacDonald and Scott Wilson Railways.

A result is expected in a month’s time before the next package is let.

“Crossrail will see who wins, then decide who can cope with more work,” said a source close to the matter.
