Construction managers held after crane crashes onto kindergarten in Shandong

Five children were killed on Friday when a crane collapsed at a construction site next to a kindergarten in Shandong province.

China's official Xinhua News Agency said that children playing outside were hit by falling bricks as the crane crashed into their playschool in Zibo city.

Two further children and the crane operator were taken to hospital with injuries and the roof of the kindergarten was damaged.

Preliminary investigations have blamed poor safety measures for the accident and managers of the construction company were detained, according to reports.

Police are still investigating the incident and the area has been cordoned off.
