Redbridge council announces shortlist for regeneration of Ilford town centre as Berkeley Homes and Lend Lease pull out

Four developers will compete to design and build the £100m Unity Square scheme in Ilford, Essex, close to the Stratford Olympic site.

Following the selection of a shortlist, four developers - Barratt Thames Gateway, Bellway Homes with Metropolitan Housing Partnership, Crest Nicholson, and Tesco Stores with Countryside Properties - have confirmed they will be submitting tenders to the London Borough of Redbridge.

Two other shortlisted bidders, Berkeley Homes and Lend Lease, will not compete.

The scheme, in Ilford town centre, will involve a landmark open space, a theatre, restaurants and housing.

Redbridge council member Jim O’Shea said: “The quality of the developers throwing their hat into the ring demonstrates the exciting opportunities arising in Ilford and the commitment that major developers are prepared to make to the town.”
