Developer first in region to gain full certification in the eco-standard for a new build property

Fyne Initiatives is the first developer in Scotland to be awarded the full German Passivhaus certification on a new build property.

The commercial subsidiary of Argyll-based housing association Fyne Homes used heat recovery ventilation, triple glazing with insulated frames and solar panels for hot water to meet the energy efficient standards of the Passivhaus Institute.

The winning property will be unveiled in April 2010 as part of a development of 14 new low-energy homes overlooking the Firth of Clyde in Dunoon.

Peter McDonald, director of Fyne Initiatives, was delighted with the achievement: “We have always aimed to build low-energy buildings and provide the most sustainable solutions for future generations. However, this is beyond our wildest dreams. To have achieved Passivhaus certification is not an easy task and we couldn't have done it without the expertise of our experienced architect, Gokay Deveci, and our outstanding Dunoon-based contractor John Brown (Strone).”
