Galliard appointed as main contractor on mixed-use Islington Square development

Galliard Construction has won a deal to build a flagship £400m development in north London.

The firm has been appointed as the main contractor at Islington Square, a mixed-use scheme providing 263 residential apartments, 108 serviced apartments and 170,000 sq ft of retail space for restaurants and luxury lifestyle brands.

In addition to new residential buildings, the scheme will also retain and renovate existing Edwardian buildings on the site.

Galliard will begin demolition work in the next few months, knocking down the 1960s block at the northern end of the site, and will then start piling and groundworks across the site while simultaneously cladding newly constructed concrete frameworks within the retained Edwardian structures and starting external refurbishment works.

The scheme, which is being developed by Sager and US property investor Cain Hoy, is expected to be completed by late 2017.
