Contractor to build Worcester Library and History Centre to BREEAM rating of 'Excellent'

Contractor and housebuilder Galliford Try, has reached financial close on the £60m PFI project to develop the Worcester Library and History Centre.

The project, for Worcestershire County Council in partnership with the University of Worcester, involves developing a fully integrated public and university library, which will be the first of its kind in the UK.

The scheme will also include the county archives and records office, history centre, archaeology service, multi-agency customer service centre in addition to commercial and retail space.

The building is designed to have 50% less carbon emissions than a conventional design and is aiming for a BREEAM rating of "Excellent".

Completion is expected by January 2012.
