Galliford Try education director Michael Buchanan is stepping down in January after nearly seven years in the role.

Buchanan will be replaced as education director by Claire Jackson, who will step up from her role as the contractor’s education bid manager.

In an email to Galliford Try staff, seen by Building, the firm’s building division managing director Mick Laws said Buchanan will be “maintaining his association” with the company but in a “different capacity”. It is understood that Buchanan has postponed his retirement to carry on with the business in an advisory capacity.

Commenting on Jackson’s appointment, Laws said: “As an internal appointment, we can be confident about continuity and progression.

“Claire will continue to drive our market position forward, consolidating and refining our approaches and striving to achieve even greater quality, efficiency and value for our clients.”

He added that the value of Galliford Try’s projects on-site and on the order book in the education sector is “touching the £1billion mark for the first time”.
