Lab in Filton near Bristol will test future materials

Galliford Try has won a £25m deal to build a testing centre for large structural parts involved in manufacturing aircraft.

The contractor will build the advanced development and testing centre for Airbus UK at the client’s Filton base near Bristol.

The facility will include a flexible physical test environment that will form a proving ground for future technologies, new materials and manufacturing techniques, as well as efficient testing processes.

Around 250 Airbus UK engineers will be based in the new facility, alongside Airbus’s corporate-level research and technology network.

Mark Wusthoff, Galliford Try’s south west area director, said the contract was a “significant step forward” for the firm.
