A tiny private house in Costa Rica, designed by London-based architect Gianni Botsford, has won the RIBA Lubetkin Prize for international architecture.

The judges praised it for “the timber pyrotechnics of the roof structure” that nevertheless “creates a calm and comfortable place to be”.

Thirty other buildings were also given RIBA awards for architectural excellence last Friday evening, including Foster + Partners and HOK Sport’s Wembley stadium and Denton Corker Marshall’s Civil Justice Centre in Manchester.
