Gleeds has been named project manager on the Midland Metropolitan Hospital development left stranded by Carillion’s collapse.

The firm will be supported by Arup and architect Stride Treglown as works supervisors on behalf of Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust.

Gleeds director Mike Penny is leading on the project.

Gleeds has already been brought in to project manage work being carried out by Laing O’Rourke at the other hospital left in the balance by Carillion’s collapse – the Royal Liverpool.

Earlier this month the trust recommended that Balfour Beatty, who has been onsite carrying out an early works contract since last autumn, be named as the preferred bidder to complete the Midland Met job.

A final contract for the main construction works is expected to be signed later this year.
