Gleeds has been appointed cost consultant on the construction phase of the £1.5bn Battersea power station project.

Gleeds has been working in various capacities for Parkview on the scheme since 2001.

A source close to Gleeds said the company was now preparing for the next round of costings on the building.

Davis Langdon and Gardiner & Theobald had also been working on other parts of the project but have completed their contracts and left.

Gardiner & Theobald had been working on the conference hotel and Davis Langdon on residential elements in the development.

Ian Rumgay, communications director at Parkview, said: “Gardiner & Theobald and Davis Langdon have completed their projects and are not working

for us now. The only one working for us at the moment is Gleeds.”

The next major job will be to remove and rebuild the chimneys

He said that the Battersea power station project, which had stalled, was finally set to move forward.

Rumgay said: “It is certainly about to progress into the construction phase. This will happen in the next six months. The next major job will be to remove and rebuild the chimneys.”

The project has been the subject of rumours after the admission last week by Victor Hwang, president of Parkview, that his chief executive, chief financial officer and development and leasing director had quit. Hwang has replaced two of these executives with his son and daughter.

Parkview’s bankers, Royal Bank of Scotland and Barclays, are also thought to be concerned by the slow progress of the scheme. They have warned Hwang that he must find a funding partner urgently.

The project aims to turn Battersea power station into one of London’s best known cultural and entertainment sites. The development will include hotels and apartments, offices, galleries, commercial and leisure spaces.

Arup produced the masterplan with a team of architects including Grimshaw and Reardon Smith.
