Gleeson is appointed by Liverpool council on 50 m swimming pool project, in the Wavertree area of the city, to start in June 2006.

Gleeson Building, the contracting business which MJ Gleeson sold to its management last year, has won a £14.5m swimming pool project in Liverpool.

Gleeson was appointed by Liverpool council and the project, in the Wavertree area of the city, will start in June 2006.

It is due to be completed in November next year, ahead of Liverpool's status as European Capital of Culture 2008.

The 50-metre pool will have a moveable floor, to allow depth and slope variation.

It will also have moveable booms to allow changes in size, which will in turn allow it to be used for different purposes.

As well as the main pool, Gleeson Building will construct a 25 m training pool and associated changing and spectator facilities.

Gleeson Building started work on another pool and leisure centre, in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, two weeks ago.
