Development Securities and McLaren get green light for redevelopment of city centre market

A £100m mixed-use scheme in Brighton has been given the green light by the city’s council.

The Circus West scheme, being developed by Development Securities-owned Catherdral Group in a joint venture with contractor McLaren’s development business, involves the redevelopment of a market in the centre of Brighton into a new commercial, cultural and residential quarter.

Brighton council this week gave the scheme, designed by architect Shedkm, a resolution to grant planning.

The development will include 142 new homes, 450 student beds, 38,000 sq. ft. of office space, a state-of-the-art dance studio and a new library and academic building for the University of Brighton.

Construction is expected to begin in Q4 2014 with a targeted completion in Q3 2017.
