33-storey tower ready in 2019

Work is set to start on architecture practice Hodder & Partners’ biggest project to date, after client the University of London announced it had finalised funding for the £105m student-housing tower.

Set to be named Duncan House, the 33-storey block destined for Stratford High Street, in east London, will be the first major property to be acquired by the university in 50 years.

The university said it would provide more than 500 student rooms as well as up to 18,000 sq m of communal space near Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The scheme also includes 44 permanent homes.

The London Legacy Development Corporation approved the proposals, drawn up by RIBA past president Stephen Hodder’s practice, last June. But the university only announced the sign-off of financing for the development last week.

Work will start in March and finish in 2019.
