Two "earth-sheltered" buildings – structures that are partially buried – were completed this week in Mile End Park in east London.
One is an ecology centre, the other an exhibition pavilion. The buildings were developed by a partnership of Tower Hamlets council and a local environment trust and business alliance. They were designed by Tibbalds TM2 and built by Fitzpatrick, with Community Land Use as landscape architect, Fulcrum Consulting as environmental consultant and Mott MacDonald as civil and structural engineer.
