Capita provides structural engineering for Gerry Judah's design featuring the Auto Union Streamliner

These are images of the dramatic central sculpture, designed by sculptor Gerry Judah, for this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed held last weekend.

The sculpture was sponsored by German carmaker Audi in its centenary year.

Judah's design celebrates Audi's achievements in motorsports. It features the legendary 1937 Auto Union Streamliner and the current R8 V10 sports car positioned at either end of a dramatic 'swoosh' of tyre tracks - designed as if they are driving off into the sky.

Capita Bobrowski, part of Capita Symonds, provided structural engineering design services for the sculpture.

Although the 44 tonne, 32m high structure is entirely fabricated from steel, the firm utilised its in-house software - originally written for tensile fabric - to provide the complex cutting patterns needed for the steel plates that are welded to the central core tube.
