New Fareham facility opens which receives excellent rating for sustainable defence projects

A new dining hall and leisure facility on the south coast has received a glowing sustainability rating. The Howe Galley for the Royal Navy in Fareham was deemed to be excellent under the DREAM (Defence Related Environmental Assessment Methodology) standard.

The 3,300m2 building, at HMS Collingwood, includes under-floor heating, energy efficient lighting and water management systems. It also has high density insultation, natural air flow dynamics and effective solar shading.

The project team includes prime contractor Flagship Training, contractor Mansell, engineer Gifford and architect SMC.
