Retirement developer Pegasus Life has secured planning permission for five towers of up to 16 storeys in Sutton Coldfield, designed specifically for older people.

Barton Willmore, who secured planning permission from Birmingham council on behalf of Pegasus for the Glenn Howells-designed scheme, said it would be large enough to support 240 older-person households.

The scheme is deigned specifically to meet and exceed the recommendations of the Housing our Ageing Population  Panel for Innovation report, with Sutton Coldfield already housing  disproportionate number of over-55s.The development will include a swimming pool. Library, restaurants, gardens and a “well-being centre”.

The development will fill a high-profile 1.13 hectare city centre site that has been vacant for 15 years. Barton Willmore said the development would create 212 construction jobs, and save the NHS £3.3m over three years.
