Sunderland council has approved plans for what will be England’s highest bridge.
The 190m-tall structure, which will span 324m over the River Wear, has received cross-party backing. It is designed by Spence Associates, which also designed the Infinity footbridge over the Tees. Construction is due to start in 2012.
