Higgins beat off competition from Lovell, Countryside, Mansell, Beazer, Tarmac and Kier to take the £30m contract. It will involve the redevelopment of Pollards Hill Estate in the London Borough of Merton for registered social landlord Moat Housing.
The contract will be carried out using an open book approach, with both parties sharing any savings.
Higgins director Bryan Sabin said the five-phase scheme would see 2000 homes redeveloped.
He said: "Normally we would have been judged on lowest price but here we were judged on best value. The beauty of partnering for us is that no one objects to us making a return in exchange for our expertise." n Higgins has unveiled its results for the year to 31 July 1998. Pre-tax profits rose 89% to 1.2m, on a turnover up 25% to £63.3m.
