HLM Architects has poached a senior staff member from rival Archial to become its director of architecture

Patrick Clark will be based at the Surrey-based architect’s Glasgow office but will oversee design work across the practice.

He was formerly a partner at Parr Architects, which was bought by SMC Group in September 2006. SMC has since rebranded as Archial.

HLM is known for its work in the public sector, particularly in prisons, defence and education. The firm’s Glasgow office recently completed a £70m prison facility in West Lothian, Scotland.

Clark has experience in education architecture and as a client design adviser on PPP projects.

Chris Liddle, chairman of HLM, said: “Patrick will get involved in many projects, particularly in our education sector work. We are at our strongest in this sector, and Patrick will help us to sustain that.”
