Company plans to develop its first nuclear station in Wylfa, North Wales

Horizon Nuclear Power will build its first new nuclear station at Anglesey in North Wales it has emerged.

The site at Wylfa, which lies north-east of Holyhead, was selected over Oldbury-on-Severn in South Gloucestershire, which Horizon – a joint venture between E.ON and RWE - plans to develop later.

The 232-hectare plot of land sits alongside an existing Magnox nuclear station and has received widespread public support because of potential employment possibilities.

Horizon still needs to decide what type of reactor it will build on the site, which will influence the construction schedule.
