Housebuilders hail ‘very welcome’ shake up of nutrient neutrality rules

Housing secretary will table laws ending Natural England’s legal ‘requirement’ to block housebuilding in at risk areas

Housing secretary Michael Gove is set to announce a major deregulation of rules around nutrient neutrality, according to press reports.

An announcement is due from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities at 10am this morning regarding the rules, which are designed to protect rivers from nitrate and phosphate pollution but which housebuilders blame for holding up development of 120,000 homes in the planning pipeline.
