Consultants Temple and RSK have been appointed to appraise the sustainability of the northern section of High Speed 2.

The firms will support developer HS2 Ltd at its consultation events and assess the sustainability of refinements to the scheme’s lines running from Birmingham to Manchester and Leeds.

The £1.5m contract will also entail the firms supporting HS2 ltd with development of the final scheme after the consultation is finished.

Beth West, HS2 Ltd commercial director said the £33bn HS2 project would give “a significant boost to the engineering and environmental sectors”.

She added: “This contract award is a positive sign of the progress that continues to be made on phase two beyond Birmingham as we move toward the public consultation later in the summer on the initial preferred route that was published at the end of January.”
