THE Health and Safety Executive has told London Underground that it wants proposals to guarantee the safety of glass at stations on the Jubilee Line Extension by today.

The HSE has asked LU to laminate toughened glass at all JLE stations after panels shattered at Stratford and cracked at Canary Wharf.

The British Standards Institution is also looking at rules on overhead glazing. A BSI source said: “We are reviewing BS5516, which is the patent glass standard, to take account of overhead glazing.” Its proposals are due in September.
