Graham set to build the project
John McAslan & Partners has won planning consent for its proposals to turn a disused Oxford power station intoa £60m global leadership centre for Oxford University’s Saïd Business School.
The design will transform the riverside former Osney Power Station into a residential teaching facility for senior executives with facilities including a gym and exercise studio and a restaurant.
McAslan won the project in an international competition in 2017.
Executive chairman John McAslan said the practice was “delighted” the city council had approved its detailed designs.
Osney Power Station was the city’s first electrical power plant. It opened in 1892 and remained in use until 1968.
The university acquired it the following year and for the following four decades it was used as a research laboratory for the department of engineering science, where cutting-edge experiments in hypersonics and turbo-machinery were performed.
McAslan said work on the development was expected to start on site early next year.
Last month Building revealed that Sir Robert McAlpine and Mace had been pipped by smaller rival Graham for the £60m job.
It is understood the university has whittled down its four-strong shortlist to just the Northern Ireland firm.
Bam has also missed out on the job which has been drawn up by architect John McAslan + Partners.
