Practice beat out firms including OMA and Snøhetta
Stanton Williams has won an international design contest for the Clermont-Ferrand Metropolitan Area Library in central France.
The Stirling prize winning practice beat out four other practices including OMA, Snøhetta, Wilmotte & Associés and Christian de 2Portzamparc.
Stanton Williams was appointed as the lead architect in collaboration with local practice Marcillon Thuilier Architectes.
The winning concept repurposes the 17th century Hôtel-Dieu hospital building and garden as the new home for the Clermont-Ferrand Metropolitan Library and its collections.
This is the second major Stanton Williams project in France, after the practice completed the Musée d’arts de Nantes in 2017.
